Join us for Giving Tuesday 2023 to provide assistive technology for our project at The Downs!
In the first three quarters of 2023 we have accomplished some impressive goals to keep our project at The Downs on schedule to potentially begin housing residents as early as Summer of 2025. A few of these accomplishments include;
January 2023: 3i Housing of Maine partners with SeniorsPlus on Enhanced Care Coordination model
SeniorsPlus, statewide Area Agency on Aging located in Lewiston, Maine and 3iHoME were awarded a multi-year Innovation Grant by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services to pilot an enhanced care coordination model for people with disabilities.
June 5, 2023: Town of Scarborough Approves Project
Scarborough Planning Board approved our project at The Downs, in Scarborough. Approval from the Scarborough approval makes it possible for our project's groundbreaking to take place in Spring 2024.
June 17, 2023: 3i HoME hosts our first in-person event
Our 3i HoME Project Celebration Event was hosted at Adaptive Outdoor Education Center and attracted project partners and community members from throughout Maine (and beyond) — all who are interested and/or invested in the work we are doing to bring affordable, accessible housing to Maine.
September 2023: POAH is in the process of filing an application for construction financing for the 3i HoME Scarborough project with MaineHousing under the Low Income Housing Tax Credit. This filing will be made by September 21, 2023 with notices of awards anticipated before the end of the year.
October 10th, 2023: 3i HoME host MATH workshop
3i Housing of Maine hosted a workshop at which experts from across the University of Maine system came together to create a plan for a Mobility and Assistive Technology Hub (MATH), an innovation space to be part of the 3i HoME building, where visionaries & entrepreneurs will conceptualize, design, and validate solutions to improve the lives of the 3iHoME residents and the general community.
Whew! We have been a busy group and yet, we still have a gap to close in order to make elements of our project a reality. The two major initiatives we are still working on development is our Mobility and Assistive Technology Hub (MATH)and our Assistive Technology Enhancement Center (ATEC) — each of these areas aim to utilize assistive technology to increase comfort, functionality, and quality of life for individual with a disability.
As a member of our community, we need you in order to make independence, comfort, and freedom a reality for all Mainers. This #GivingTuesday, we have a goal to raise $5,100 to help develop 51 affordable, accessible housing units that include customized assistive technology to enhance resident’s independence, freedom, and autonomy. Creating affordable, accessible housing provides a number of benefits to disabled residents (and the surrounding community). Let’s name a few:
Enhanced health
Maintaining a higher level of independence
Increased confidence
Reduce need for direct care workers
Increased safety
Decreased falls/injuries
Improved quality of life
Increased ability to participate in community activities
Decrease the number of barriers individuals face at home
Greater social inclusion
Increase the attractiveness of The Downs by bringing in new people
Helps to boost Scarborough and Maine’s economy
Create a more diverse and inclusive community
Increase self-efficacy
Improve family relationships
Create a safe and welcoming environment
Add resources for non-residents to enhance their comfort and functionality
Create an integrated community
